Battery Energy Storage
Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) are able to serve as a buffer between the CHP plant generators ramping up and down and the load signal. However, due to the customer’s intensive energy usage and the electricity rate structure, the buffering from the BESS needs to serve through a very large time window: approximately a 14-hour window for variable discharge, and 10-hour for recharge. Short-duration batteries become cost-prohibitive when scaling up for such long-duration applications.
To achieve a successful use case that is economic and technically viable, a battery that is able to scale economically for long-duration storage is needed. This is achievable by technologies such as the energy storage technology from Zinc8 Energy Solutions (Zinc8).
