Our team member Serena King has graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering Degree, Majoring in Electronic and Energy Engineering with Honours from Griffith University in Brisbane, Queensland.
Serena’s proud family including her niece and nephew, were there to celebrate her achievement at a low-key graduation event held on campus in December.
Growing up on the Gold Coast, Serena began her university journey as a mature age student determined to achieve her dream of becoming a qualified electronics engineer.
Serena has been a great support for the SmartConsult team as an undergraduate energy consultant working on DNSP solar grid applications to the clients’ distributor for approval and using AutoCAD to draw up solar designs. Serena also worked on several reports and operational maintenance manuals after solar has been installed as well as assisting with energy management analysis and case study analysis.
The role with SmartConsult allowed her to improve skills in the areas of AutoCAD and apply theory in a practical way and it gave Serena exposure to solar PV design and solar project management.
The next chapter is as a graduate electrical engineer with South32, a company based in Groote Eylandt. Serena will be moving to Cairns and will be flying in and out.
The graduate trainee program will further expose Serena to a wide range of projects, asset management and project management.
Serena is grateful to the engineering lecturers and staff at Griffith University for giving her the tools and encouragement to learn, grow, develop and step out of her comfort zone. Of her work experience at SmartConsult Serena said;
“Working with SmartConsult was a valuable experience allowing me to convert theory into practice. I highly regard the experienced people I got to work with and I really appreciate all the support and guidance I received”.
We wish Serena all the very best wit her next endeavour with South32 and of course would be happy to have her back working with us again in the future. Congratulations Serena. We thank her for all her hard work.
